GIVE ME MY FLOWERS: Exalting Black Women And Girls
GIVE ME MY FLOWERS is meant to shine light on black people and everything beautiful, compelling, and powerful about us. Far too often is the narrative never what it should be. This installment of GIVE ME MY FLOWERS is for black women and girls. I conducted an interview for each model, and the photos were meant to represent some of the subjects discussed in each interview. For Asiah the idea of standing in her own light in her own moment as who she is in totality was what we were looking to illustrate through the pictures. For Ahniya, she states she is not a black woman, but a black girl who likes various things and is more than what people perceive. Ahniya and her mother made the background for her photographs. The background includes anime and other art in which she loves and takes deep interest in. The 2 primary shots are of both models depicted behind flowers being presented to them, and the portraits illustrate the beauty and power they exude. As a photographer, I always seek to make dope shit. I believe this is exactly that.
